Notes on this list
This page puts clubs and tournaments together and sorts them by municipality, so that a player can see what is within reach of home or of a hotel. The city of Athens comes first, then the municipalities with more than one entry, then the rest of Attica. Outside the clubs there is one more address: the Panellinion in Exarchia, a traditional café where the tables are laid with chess sets and where the Kotinos club holds a rapid every Saturday.
For a casual game the café is the simplest door to push. For anything else the way in is a club. A handful say in writing that visitors may come, and their entries carry that note; most say nothing either way, which is why a message to the club before a first visit is sensible. An open rapid is often the easiest introduction, since it needs only an entry in advance and puts a newcomer in front of several local players in one evening.
