Rapid series, club opens and yearly tournaments in Attica 30

The tournament week in Athens is made by the clubs. Panellinios plays its numbered Friday rapid, named after Petros Kolyvas, Kotinos runs a Thursday marathon of rapid and blitz in Kypseli, Petralona takes Tuesdays, and the Panellinion café in Exarchia has a rapid every Saturday. Across the suburbs the same pattern repeats with numbered Sunday rapids in Kallithea, Ilioupoli, Kifisia, Chalandri and Pagkrati, and Friday tournaments at OPAX in Cholargos.

Longer events are played one round a week: the Tuesday Open in Peristeri, the Saturday Open in Vyronas, the opens of Chess Square in Ampelokipoi. The year has fixed points as well, the Papanastasio Open in Peristeri at the end of August, the Nikaia Open in early September, the Christmas tournament in Ano Liosia and the Irakleio open that carries the name Athens Challenge. Almost every event asks for an entry in advance, and the rated ones for a federation licence. A series is listed when more than one edition can be shown; the organiser’s notice has the next date.
