Blitz tournaments in Athens and around Attica 7

Blitz in Athens usually shares the evening with something else. The Kotinos marathon in Kypseli plays a rapid first and a blitz after it on the same Thursday, both rated and with a ceiling on the number of players. Chess Square in Ampelokipoi pairs a rapid with a blitz in its monthly Sunday events and in a Grand Prix, with one fee for both or a smaller one for either. Petralona, long a Tuesday rapid series, has announced Tuesday blitz evenings as well.

In Petroupoli the Grand Chess Series lists Grand Prix events in rapid and blitz on Wednesday and Thursday dates. Chalandri includes blitz among its Sunday tournaments, the academy of Neo Psychiko has held a Sunday speed-chess arena, and in Nikaia the open of early September had a Fischer Random blitz among its side events. Fast games need little time and no preparation, which makes these evenings a practical first tournament for a visitor; the entry still has to be made in advance.
