Rapid tournaments in Athens and around Attica 21

Rapid is the everyday tournament format of Athens, and most of it comes in numbered series. Panellinios has reached a three-figure count with its Friday rapid, a six-round Swiss with a short increment, and the Saturday rapid at the Panellinion café is past its two-hundredth edition. OPAX in Cholargos numbers its Friday rapids, Kallithea and Ilioupoli their Sunday ones, and Kifisia keeps two counts, one for the youth rapid and one for adults.

Other clubs hold a rapid by season or by occasion: an autumn rapid in Keratsini and one in Piraeus, the open rapid of Neoi Vyronos, the rapid of Panathinaikos that is named after Angeliki Parra, Sunday rapids in Pagkrati and Chalandri. Many are rated for the international rapid list, which means a federation licence is needed, and some split the field into a rated group and an unrated one for younger children. Entry fees, where a notice gives one, come to a few euros. Places are limited by the size of the clubroom, so entering before the day is the rule.
